Carnegie Mellon's College of Engineering is dedicated to developing an entrepreneurial mindset in our students, faculty, and staff - indeed, it has been a part of our institutional DNA since our founding. We believe honing our curiosity, habitually seeking connections between disparate ideas and disciplines, and relentlessly pursuing value creation will collectively empower our Carnegie Mellon University students, faculty, and staff, and the entire KEEN community to fulfill our chosen callings.

Our vision is to educate and innovate to expand the boundaries of engineering, address societal challenges, and create engineering leaders around the world.

Why We're In KEEN
The KEEN community of institutions is dedicated to a shared mission to graduate engineers with an entrepreneurial mindset to create personal, economic, and societal value through a lifetime of meaningful work. KEEN’s mission wholly aligns with our institutional vision to have a transformative impact on society through continual innovation in education, research, creativity, and entrepreneurship.

Mission
We will build and sustain a global community of engineering leaders to achieve real and enduring good by providing impactful educational experiences, performing pioneering research that spans from exploration to realization, and creating an environment where every individual thrives.

We will do this by:

  1. Creating a transformative educational experience for students focused on deep disciplinary knowledge; problem solving; leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills; and personal health and well-being.

  2. Cultivating a transformative university community committed to (a) attracting and retaining diverse, world-class talent; (b) creating a collaborative environment open to the free exchange of ideas, where research, creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship can flourish; and (c) ensuring individuals can achieve their full potential.

  3. Impacting society in a transformative way by engaging with partners (regionally, nationally, and globally) outside the traditional borders of the university campus.

Full strategic plan.

We seek to graduate engineers that will have a transformational impact on society through continual innovation in education, research, creativity, and entrepreneurship. The pillars of KEEN, mindset and collaboration (between faculty and institutions), are central to our engineering strategic plan and make up two of our four strategic goals: Education and Global Presence & Mindset. By joining KEEN, collectively, we can work toward transforming education and pioneering research for real and enduring good.
