Engineering Unleashed

Transforming engineering education

Engineering is no longer about simply designing a technical solution to solve a problem. Today’s engineers need an entrepreneurial mindset to innovate, create, and most importantly, lead. Entrepreneurially minded learning has given us a shared language and innovative pedagogies to cultivate this mindset in our students.
- Scott Hummel, Director of Engineering and Professor of Mechanical Engineering, Lafayette University

Our mission: To graduate engineers with an entrepreneurial mindset so they can create personal, economic, and societal value through a lifetime of meaningful work.

A Community For You

Engineering Unleashed is a community of more than 2,500 engineering faculty and staff dedicated to this shared mission.

Whether you are a first-year professor or an engineering education thought leader with years of experience, Engineering Unleashed is a place where you can communicate, share, connect, and create. All ideas, contributions, and experiments that advance the Engineering Unleashed mission are welcomed.

By joining this community, you can access thousands of classroom and project resources, connect and network with peers, and progress in your career and service.

Why is the Entrepreneurial Mindset Important for Engineers?

When an entrepreneurial mindset (EM) is combined with engineering skills, students are equipped to create extraordinary value for others.

An entrepreneurial mindset is not a fad or a trend. It’s a time-honored attribute cultivated by those committed to human flourishing and progress. That’s why this community is focused on entrepreneurial mindset in engineering education.

You can embed EM outcomes in your curriculum, in student immersive experiences, and within a whole variety of co-curricular or extra-curricular programs. By making the decision to include a focus on engineering entrepreneurial mindset, your students will begin to recognize opportunities, adapt to a rapidly changing world, and develop solutions for society’s challenges. You can unleash the potential of your students, empowering them to be value creators.

And with this community, you have access to best practices and a support system so that you don’t have to start at square one.

Join for the resources. Stay for the community.

Engineering Unleashed is home to a library of community-created content and best practices for entrepreneurially minded learning. But we are more than a library. We promote professional growth and offer opportunities to collaborate on new ideas with other members to further your discipline and advance in your career.

Together, we are all working to inspire future generations of engineers to identify opportunities, make a positive impact, and create value for the world around them.

Being part of KEEN has helped us not only to link and collaborate with other universities and innovate on how we educate engineering students with an entrepreneurial mindset but also sparked a university initiative across colleges that has been transformative for Lawrence Tech.
- Maria Vaz, former Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost, Lawrence Technological University

Engineering Unleashed is Powered by KEEN

Engineering Unleashed is a community of faculty and staff committed to the mission of instilling an entrepreneurial mindset within undergraduate engineering students. Although the community members can come from anywhere across the engineering education ecosystem, the logo recognizes the original and continuing contribution and influence of faculty and staff leaders within the institutions that make up the Kern Entrepreneurial Engineering Network (KEEN).

Powered by KEEN is more than a tagline. KEEN represents the institutional commitment that will continue to impact and grow the Engineering Unleashed community.

The Entrepreneurial Engineering Movement

While KEEN and Engineering Unleashed share a mission and vision that is focused on adding entrepreneurial mindset to undergraduate engineering, they are part of something larger. A movement. The Entrepreneurial Engineering Movement.

This is the future of engineering.

Members of this movement believe that an entrepreneurial mindset coupled with engineering thought and action, expressed through collaboration and communication, and founded on character is the key to unleashing human potential in order to solve societal problems and create an environment for human flourishing.
