Summary
Improve productivity, quality, cost, delivery time, safety and environment and morale through a Kaizen activity for a small assembly line process.
Description

This card describes a multi-day class activity for a freshman level industrial engineering survey class.  Students are tasked with improving the design of an assembly line and supporting processes while building upon 4 areas of expertise that are usually seen within a production plant (manufacturing engineer, product design engineer, quality engineer and ergonomics enigneer/specialist) by simulating a Kaizen event.  Students work as a team with individually assigned responsibility for each member to analyzing data associated with the running of an assembly line, and use that analysis to improve the performance using process flowcharting, tool design and ergonomic layout, bottleneck analysis / line balancing and the application of the continuous improvement process based on the A3 problem solving method.
